Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 2 March 2007

Labour rebels just keep Blair in power

I VERY much support Peter Thomas’s view that we’ll get more of the same Blairite ways of governing when Gordon Brown becomes Prime Minister (Brown will bring more of the same, February 23).
However, he’s mistaken in believing that having more rebel MPs like Jeremy Corbyn will help the matter in any way. It’s irrelevant whether Mr Corbyn speaks out against government policy. The fact of the matter is he represents the Labour Party, so more of him and other Labour rebels merely ensures the Blair/Brown government that gave us Iraq, student top-up fees and ID cards is kept in power.
Labour MPs can rebel as much as they like, the fact is that keeping them there keeps this government in power.
