CAFE VN in Clerkenwell Road specialises in dining and takeaway Vietnamese food. Owner Mylong Tham’s parents escaped China during the Second World War and settled in Vietnam, where they learned to cook and later passed on their  talents to their son. Specialities include Vietnamese coffee (stronger than usual and traditionally served with condensed milk) and Pho dishes (noddle soup).

Mylong says: “We opened with a 60-cover diner in March last year and are doing really well. Vietnamese food is a lot more delicate than other Oriental food – not as heavy on stir-fry as Chinese and not as spicy as Thai. We use the freshest ingredients for a very subtle and delicious flavour.” He also boasts a karaoke room, which is free for guests who spend a minimum of £10.

Cafe VN is open Monday to Friday 11.30am to 10pm and on Saturday from noon to 10pm.
