Saddened by a much-neglected memorial
• I WAS saddened on a recent business trip to London by the sight in Lincoln’s Inn Fields of the remains of a memorial Canadian Maple tree which the sign says was planted by the then Prime Minister of Canada in 1998 in memory of those members of the Royal Canadian Air Force who were stationed in Lincoln’s Inn Fields during World War II.
At the planting ceremony the Prime Minister was accompanied by the then Mayor of Camden, Ray Adamson, who died in August this year aged 81.
May I appeal to all those organisations involved in the original planting to get together and consider what steps can be taken to restore the site and replace the tree. In the year of Mr Adamson’s death it would be a great acknowledgement of him too to ensure that this is returned to a fit and proper memorial which the area can be proud of, and that the families of Canadian airforce men and women and those of us who are simply passing visitors can look at with pride.
