Belsize Green eco fair is the bee’s knees

THERE was a green gathering on Haverstock Hill on Saturday as the highly successful Belsize Eco Week was brought to a colourful end.
The unique scenes saw revellers greeted by beekeepers, farmyard animals and electric bikes as they arrived at the Belsize Green Fair.
Among the highlights was an opportunity for visitors to pop into the Hampstead Old Town Hall to swap their belongings in a give-and-take trade-off.
They also got the chance to enjoy freshly-made pizzas made using only local ingredients and cooked in a handmade cob oven.
Almost 100 people then pounded the pavements as they took part in the 5km fun run (pictured above warming up), organised by the nearby Springhealth Gym, Peter Stuart of Belsize Park, was the overall winner, while Highgate School pupil Isabella Cullen, 12, won the under-18s age category.
Organised by Transition Belsize, the week of events was designed to raise awareness about climate change and the inevitable end of cheap fossil fuels.
Councillor Tom Simon, a keen member of Transition Belsize, said afterwards: “I
was delighted with how the day went, the turnout was fantastic and everyone
had a really good time.”
