‘We need to listen to young people’

CAMDEN’S council leader, Councillor Keith Moffitt, said last night (Wednesday) that the current Town Hall administration had pioneered closer contact with the borough’s young people and was working with police to deal with youth disorder. He said: “I am always distressed to hear about any individual who is the victim of violence.
“I am very aware that there is an issue about [attacks] on young people, because when I get out an about in Camden there are always people who will talk about the fear of crime.
“We take the issue very seriously as an administration – both in terms of our work in conjunction with the police and in our innovative policies.
“We have recently established a youth council and we’ve made a proposal to appoint a youth champion for the council.”
Referring to the annual report presented to council on Monday night by community safety chief Cllr Ben Rawlings, which listed falls in robbery among a set of reductions achieved last year, Cllr Moffitt added: “Both I and this council are very interested in talking to young people directly and listening to what they have to say.”
