Celebrities toast politician who puts humour in the picture

POLITICIANS are often eager to hobnob with celebrities, but on Tuesday the tables were turned when one was toasted as the star of the show.
Councillor Rebecca Hossack was surrounded by more than 600 well-wishers for the opening of her new art gallery in Fitzrovia.
Cllr Hossack’s friend, broadcaster Griff Rhys Jones, made the opening speeches at the Fitzroy Square building, while television personality Rory McGrath and Camden Town writer AN Wilson looked on.
Mr Jones, who has lived in Fitzroy Square for eight years, said: “Rebecca’s a very old friend. I’d love it if Fitzrovia stayed a mix of small shops and art galleries. It’s great that this gallery has come here.”
This week marked 20 years in the art business for the Conservative councillor for Bloomsbury ward. She said: “For this gallery we have concentrated on what we love best – artists who follow their own furrow. Someone said last night: ‘You’ve changed the face of British art. You’ve brought humour into it.’”
