Swoops on market stalls net bags of fakes
GUCCI, Louis Vuitton, Chanel… in a Camden Town warehouse the most famous names in fashion are piled higher and wider than in a WAG’s wardrobe.
If they were real, they would have a market value of £1.5 million, but these bags, wallets and trinkets are fake – among 10,000 items seized from market stalls in Camden during a four-week clampdown by trading standards officers.
On Tuesday chief trading standards officer Christopher Jones promised more seizures. He said: “People say this is a victimless crime, but if people buy fake goods they are not spending money on genuine items sold by other traders.”
