Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 17 May 2007
Care home survey result
• THE 12 week public consultation on our ideas for care homes, extra care sheltered housing and a new Charlie Ratchford resource centre came to a close on May 4.
Six thousand documents and questionnaires were sent out.
We have held 25 public meetings across the borough, plus councillor and staff briefings, many of which I have attended. More than 300 people have come along to the public meetings and we’ve had over 900 written questionnaires returned, plus emails and telephone responses.
Throughout this period, two independent specialists have worked with residents in our care homes to ensure their views are heard and included in the consultation process.
They have been particularly involved with residents with dementia who cannot easily make their views known.
I have been impressed and encouraged by the level of interest and involvement shown by a wide range of Camden residents and organisations. Both older people and those of a younger generation have been positive about our approach to planning for the future and have given us valuable contributions and comments.
Now we are analysing the responses and will be preparing a report of the consultation process and findings. A group of older volunteers will be helping officers with this to ensure the report accurately reflects what people have said. This report, alongside recommendations for the next stage of the process, will go to the Executive in September for their decision.
