Cobden lift cup

Camden Sunday League Bill Price Cup
Cobden Athletic 4,
Surreal Madrid 4
(Cobden win 5-4 after extra time)

PLAYERS from Cobden Athletic lifted the Bill Price Memorial Cup on Sunday after winning one of the most exciting ever cup finals in the Camden Sunday League.
The Division Two side shared nine goals with Division One opponents Surreal Madrid in a thrilling encounter held at Wadham Lodge in Walthamstow.
Cobden took the lead when Joe Thompson scored from the spot after Pat Jones was upended in the penalty area. Within minutes Madrid were level when the referee awarded another penalty for handball, leaving John Keohane to step up and level the scores.
Madrid completed the comeback when Lee Kilby fired them ahead, but in a topsy-turvy game Cobden hit back when Lee O’Driscoll struck from just outside the area.
Thompson again gave Athletic the lead when he scored his second of the game from yet another penalty. But again Madrid pulled level when Kilby slotted the ball home from close range as the teams went in at the break tied at 3-3.
In the second half, a wonderful effort from Keohane saw yet another twist as Madrid edged back in front, but Cobden forced extra-time when James Saint scrambled the ball home from six-yards.
With the game hanging in the balance, man of the match Robert Saint popped up in just the right place at just the right time to net the winner and earn Cobden a memorable victory.
