Hafiz proves big hit
LIGHTWEIGHT Saud Hafiz will be looking to clinch a place in the final four of the National Championships next Friday (May 11) when he steps between the ropes at the York Hall in Bethnal Green. The hard-hitting St Pancras fighter was in sensational form on Saturday when he beat John Hennigen from South London to be crowned the London Regional champion.
Competing in the 57kg category, Hafiz, 27, won his place in the regional finals after punching his way to glory in the North-West Division Championships, beating Islington’s Sean Moreno in the final.
Club-mate Alan Higgins was also victorious in the divisional finals when he beat Kenou Okolie from Haringey in the 69kg division. But the talented 18-year-old missed out on the London title when he lost the final on a split decision.
Saints’ star Richard McCaulay also won a division title when he beat Jacko Kalzcrowski from Trojan ABC in the final of the 96kg category.
