Arsenal penalty drama

FA Youth Cup Fifth Round

Arsenal 2
Bristol City 2
(Arsenal win 6-5 on penalties)

A DRAMATIC penalty shoot-out saw the young guns of Arsenal book their place in the sixth round of the FA Youth Cup on Friday at Underhill.
The impressive under-18s squad twice took the lead courtesy of goals from Fran Merida and Nacer Barazite, only to be pegged back each time by a stubborn City side.
With the Gunners failing to shake off their West Country opponents, it was left to the heroics of goalkeeper Lee Butcher, who saved three penalties in the shoot-out, to cancel out misses by Jay Simpson and Giorgos Efrem.
With the shoot-out reaching sudden death, it was substitute defender Rene Steer who guided Arsenal to victory as he kept his composure to send the Bristol City keeper the wrong way.
The talented young Gunners’ side will now face Cardiff City or Sunderland in the quarter-finals in two weeks’ time.
