Lights, action... When Jonathan and friends met the Peruvian bear
PADDINGTON: birthplace of London transport, home to everyone’s favourite Peruvian bear and now for the first time ever a card-carrying member of Westminster’s Christmas lights club.
Television and radio presenter Jonathan Ross, whose production company Hot Sauce TV is based in the area, flicked the switch in Praed Street on Tuesday evening to mark the momentous occasion.
Lights were paid for by the group for businesses in the area, Paddington Business Improvement District (BID).
As well as “Wossy”, Karen Jankel, daughter of Michael Bond, the man who created Paddington Bear in 1958, came down to celebrate the switch-on. They were entertained with angelic carol singers, the customary mince pie and mulled wine buffet and a fly-by visit from Santa and his elves.
Jonathan said: “I was delighted to be asked to help Paddington celebrate the first ever switch on of Christmas lights in Paddington. I love working here. The evening celebrations with Father Christmas, his reindeer and fabulous entertainers were a joy to see.” |
