West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 6 November 2009

Take care to avoid horse chestnuts

DOUBTLESS the chestnut recipes by Clare Latimer are delicious (Review, October 23), but gathering chestnuts for human consumption is not without risk.
The wholesome chestnuts correctly illustrated in West End Extra should not be confused with the more common, but poisonous, horse chestnuts which are best only used as conkers. Without the green casements it is difficult to tell the difference.
