Police hunt postman’s attackers

DETECTIVES are hunting six men who attacked a postman during an attempted robbery near Maida Vale.
The 25-year-old was driving a Royal Mail van at the junction of Portnall Road and Kilburn Lane at around 6.30pm on Monday.
Six young men wearing grey hooded tops smashed the van’s windows using metal bars and attempted to drag the postman out through the window and steal the keys. They repeatedly hit him over the head with metal bars, police said. The gang fled after people began gathering at the scene, leaving the area in two cars which were parked around the corner in Portnall Road.
The postman had cuts to his head, which required five stitches. He was discharged from hospital on Tuesday. Three of the men are thought to be around 18 years old.
Police are treating the incident as an attempted robbery. Witnesses should call the Robbery Squad on 020 7321 6719 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
