West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 9 October 2009

One ticket an hour for drivers’ illegal parking

I WOULD like to make clear that Westminster City Council does not set targets for the number of tickets issued by parking attendants and has not done so for over five years (Wardens’ road fine ‘targets’, October 2).
Claims to the contrary are not true.
In recent years there has been a decreasing trend in the number of tickets issued in Westminster, with a drop by almost 20 per cent in the number of tickets issued last year compared with the year before.
Our parking attendants issue an average of just one parking ticket per hour to motorists who are parked illegally.
We take the working conditions of all our staff very seriously and will continue to work with our contractor NSL to ensure our parking attendants are fully supported in the difficult and challenging job they do.
Cllr Danny Chalkley
Cabinet Member for City Management
