West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 9 October 2009

Older tenants will see move as
Tory ‘Big Brother’ threat

THE Conservatives’ latest attack on council tenants has now been targeted on older residents – with the mayor putting forward plans to “encourage” the over-55s living in family sized flats to move out of London in order to “free-up” homes for families.
This may be attractive to a few older residents whose families live outside London, but for the vast majority of older Westminster City Council tenants living in the home where they have brought up their family it
will be seen as a “Big Brother” threat from the Conservatives.
The answer to the need for more family homes is to build more two-, three- and four- bedroom flats for rent.
Instead Westminster Conservatives have spent £7million buying one- bed flats!
Is there no end to this Conservative madness?
Cllr Paul Dimoldenberg
Leader of the Labour Group
