‘Covent Guardians’ on duty in the piazza
Guarding the garden: ‘Men in Black’ will help tourists and police

THEY'VE gone all Men in Black in Covent Garden.
But these burly looking gentleman haven’t emerged from behind a nightclub rope: they are part of a team of policemen-cum-tourist
guides known as ‘Covent Guardians’.
The four men will be on hand to provide advice and information to shoppers and tourists, as well as assisting police with tackling crime and antisocial behaviour.
Councillor Daniel Astaire, cabinet member for community safety at Westminster City Council said: “This new team of Covent Guardians will provide a reassuring presence for shoppers and businesses as they carry out a wide range of duties from reporting problems such as graffiti through to joining police officers on patrol.
“They are friendly and approachable and will be ambassadors for everything Covent Garden has to offer.”
The initiative is jointly funded by the business group Covent Garden London and Westminster council.
