TGI hit with fine for mice
A TGI Friday’s restaurant in Covent Garden has been slapped with a £30,000 after a “breeding ground” for rodents was discovered.
Environmental health officers closed the American-style diner in Bedford Place after customers complained about mice running around while they ate.
City of Westminster Magistrates Court heard how the kitchens were swarming with cockroaches, ovens were congealed in grease and mice droppings were littered throughout the premises.
The restaurant, one of 45 owned by the company, was inspected on July 2 last year.
It was closed for a week but was allowed to reopen after a clean-up costing £66,000.
Prosecutor Felicia Davy said: “The floors and the kitchen were filthy and a pile of cockroaches was found in a drawer.
“It was clearly a breeding ground for rodents.”
The company admitted six charges of breaching food hygiene laws. |
