West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 7 August 2009

Question of public safety, on hold

A leaflet has come through my door from my three ward councillors proclaiming a police crackdown on the recent upsurge in local drug dealing and associated street crime.
They may wish to liaise with Westminster CCTV HQ who are responsible for this upsurge by shrewdly announcing to the local drug dealing community that they have:
a) decommissioned their CCTV crime vans (to save money); and
b) temporarily shut down the entire fixed CCTV network in order to reconfigure it (at great cost) in order to conform with Department for Transport guidelines for catching and punishing those they spitefully refer to as “parking cheats”.
Presumably they do not regard drug dealing, street crime and terrorist “cheats” as important (that is, lucrative) in spite of the fact that the propaganda department insists, with admirable Orwellian doublethink, that CCTV is there for public safety. Although not at the moment obviously.
