West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 12 June 2009

Trouble with revolutionaries and republicans

AS a devout monarchist I find British republicanism repugnant and would like to see republics revert to being monarchies.
For fellow-writeaholic Keith Flett’s information (see right, Forum, June 5), the Suffragettes’ direct action campaign ended in 1914.
Contemporary sources I’ve read said that their militancy put men off giving women the vote.
And the right of recall only exists in some parts of the United States and has very seldom been used against state governors.
Mark Taha
Venner Road, SE26
