Changing times... Last coin-operated meter makes way for new technology

COIN-operated parking meters RIP.
More than 50 years after the first meter was installed, they are now extinct, after the last one standing was upended from Warwick Street in Soho by the Lord Mayor.
Motorists parking in the borough must now pay via mobile phone or credit card.
Danny Chalkley, Westminster Council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, described the meters as “an iconic fixture on the capital’s streets”.
He added: “However, it is now time for us to look to the future by embracing new and superior technology and consign these out-dated machines to the history books.”
