Sex attacks cab driver sent to jail
A TAXI driver who terrorised women after picking them up in the West End has begun an indeterminate sentence.
Former male strippper John Worboys, 51, will only be freed on the direct orders of the Home Secretary.
Worboys, from Rotherhide, south-east London, targeted lone females who trusted him to get them home safely in his black cab.
But from July 2007 to February last year he drugged – with spiked drinks – and then sexually assaulted 12 of his “fares”, Croydon Crown Court heard.
Detectives suspect Worboys of carrying out many more similar attacks.
Mr Justice Penry-Davey branded him a menace and said he “perfected a web of deceit to ensnare young, intelligent women” taken in by his mild manner.
He must serve at least eight years before even being able to seek a parole hearing. And he will only be freed when the authorities are convinced he is no longer a danger to women. |
