School wins praise for ‘commitment’

A PRIMARY school in a deprived part of Westminster has been named as one of the most improving schools in the country.
League tables for 2008 show that Gateway Primary School in Capland Street, off Church Street, scored 102.8 in its Curriculum Value Added ratings.
Education experts regard the scores, which measure actual results against pupils’ predicted grades, to be the most effective indicator of a school punching above its weight.
Gateway Primary School, which serves families living on the Lisson Green estate, has 460 children – one of the largest intakes in Westminster.
Westminster City Council’s cabinet member for children’s services, Councillor Sarah Richardson, said pupils and teachers “deserve to be richly congratulated for their hard work, commitment and dedication”.
