Pop-up loo will slash street urination

A POP-up toilet pod, which rises up from the beneath the pavement after pubs’ closing time, is being built in Paddington.
The futuristic device, costing £100,000 to install and maintain for eight years, has been paid for out of special budgets given to councillors to spend on local projects.
Hyde Park residents had called for their £100,000 ward budget to be spent on tackling the problem of people urinating in the street.
Cllr Audrey Lewis, cabinet member for customers and neighbourhoods, said: “Street urination is a wholly unpleasant problem. This pop-up device means we can hide it away during the day but ensure people have no excuses if they are on their way home after they’ve had a few drinks.”
Hyde Park ward councillors plan to use next year’s cash on more police patrols on Friday and Saturday nights between October and February, nine extra litter bins in Oxford Square, Cambridge Square, Sussex Gardens and St Michael’s Street and two extra hours of patrols by a dog warden for four months.
