Canal character dies at 83

DENNIS Moore, a canal warden and friendly face within the Little Venice boating community, has died, aged 83.
Dennis, his bright blue boat Lady Venice, and his collection of Little Venice-themed sweatshirts, were a fixture on the Regent’s canal for 30 years.
His wide-beam houseboat was adorned with plant pots in the shape of swans, and he proudly cultivated an award-winning garden on the towpath, which became the object of much adulation from tourists.
Born in Watford, Dennis spent his working life at sea off Morecambe Bay and in the North Sea before retiring to the Cut at Little Venice so he could stay on the water. He lived with Frank Boast, who he met on one of the liners, until Frank died in 2004.
