Road rage: Bike protest fails to stop vote to confirm £150 charge

THE motorbike charge hasn’t been easy riding for Westminster City Council, so when hundreds of leather-clad two-wheelers roared down Victoria Street on Tuesday night, they probably expected the worse.
Around 70 of the protesters attended the built environment policy and scrutiny committee to hear what they dreaded – the trial £150 annual parking charge has been made permanent. The committee voted six to two to keep the parking charge.
Chairman of the committee Councillor Angela Harvey said: “We acknowledge the objection raised by motorcyclists, however, it is important to stress that due to our central London location we face enormous pressures on our kerbside space and other vehicle users have paid for a very long time.”
