West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 27 March 2009

Consulting is no joke

HOWARD De Walden’s claim that the Moxon Street site consultation process “has been a bit a of a joke” is an unnecessary and disappointing remark which I hope has been taken out of context (Education centre is in balance, March 20).
Over the past few months the council has conducted an extensive consultation on the master plan of Moxon Street, including 15 consultation meetings and extensive publicity, to gauge the opinions of as many local residents, businesses and interested parties as possible.
Howard De Walden’s proposals were just one of many submitted by private developers and other interested parties during the consultation process, and as such have not been favoured or ignored. They are entitled to their views and we welcome any proposals that they may have as part of the overall discussion about the site’s future. We will now consider the best use of the whole site, taking into account the feedback received from the consultation, the architect’s professional recommendations, and the guidelines outlined in the planning brief.
Anyone interested in the development of the Moxon Street site can view the architect’s recommendations, which are publicly available on the council’s website.
Cllr Melvyn Caplan
Cabinet Member for Finance
