Shelf life

• UNLIKE the traders in Pimlico I can’t wait for a new Tesco supermarket to open here (Shops express fears for future as Tesco reveal plan to move in, February 27).
Sainsbury Local and Tesco Express are an overdue enhancement to London life.
They are clean, fair-priced, roomy and bright.
By staying open late in the 1970s, the new breed of corner shops forced out all those long-established, small family businesses that always needed to close at 5pm.
