West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 6 March 2009

Plagued again by noisy party-goers

• WHEN are we going to see something tangible done about noisy parties in this area?
Recently, myself and several other tenants on the Peabody Dalgarno estate suffered considerable inconvenience because of inconsiderate
party-goers attending a soirée which lasted until after 6am the following day.
I was not the only one who found it impossible to sleep during this nightmare and we got little in the way of help or assistance towards the halting of this event.
I find it difficult to comprehend the mentality of those who indulge in this type of anti-social activity showing no consideration for their fellow tenants or even having the decency to inform them in advance of any party or stopping at a reasonable time so others can get some sleep.
To those of you who attended this party, I hope you all enjoyed it safe in the knowledge that you caused great stress to your neighbours.
But I doubt whether you have any feelings of guilt or sorrow.
Not that this was the first time.
A similar event took place not long ago.
The local environmental health is responsible – in theory at any rate – for curtailing such parties.
I was forced to call them several times throughout the night but I received no satisfaction in getting the party stopped.
I understand there was some half-baked excuse from the party-holder that it was a one-off, which was incorrect.
So we were forced to suffer this noise all night, with car doors banging, loud music, shouting, passing cars blaring out disco music – as if they owned the place.
I was told the council operated a 24-hour service to deal with noise problems such as these.
I think this so-called policy statement is misleading as the
24-hour “service” apparently refers to a call centre.
Many people suffer from these problems these days, in no small way exacerbated by the imposition of the
24-hour “society” which clearly benefits some more than others.
