West End Extra - by JAMIE WELHAM
Published: 5 December 2008

Employment scheme

MORE than £1million is being invested by Westminster Council to help almost 3,000 people stay in work.
Under the “Westminster Works” initiative, the first of its kind in the country, council officials will meet thousands of job seekers to help them gain access to training and long-term employment.
Officials will work with local employers to try to generate opportunities such as short-term placements, work experience and CV and interview workshops. The council is also helping establish the new London Apprentice Company, which aims to give hundreds of people on-the-job training while also gaining recognised qualifications such as NVQs.
