West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 21 November 2008

Opportunity to set priorities and
make Soho a safer, better place

• A FEW weeks ago the West End Extra publicised the reopening of the Community Safety Office in Soho (Cops declare war on drugs, September 26).
To their credit, the Soho Safer Neighbourhoods team has made a real impact in shifting the drugs market from Berwick Street.
Residents and businesses are grateful that there are no longer crowds of drug users waiting to be served by their dealer, and the police deserve recognition for this.
However, it may be that problems have shifted elsewhere in Soho.
Or there may be other issues that are causing as much difficulty but which the police do not seem to be dealing with.
On Wednesday November 26 there is due to be a public meeting at which anyone can put their concerns to the police.
The meeting will be at Soho Parish School (entrance in Archer Street) at 6pm.
Members of the Safer Neighbourhoods team will be there to explain the work they are doing, and any issues raised by the public will be taken into account when their priorities are set.
This is an opportunity for everyone to contribute to making Soho a better place.
If you have something to say, please come along.
Andrew Murray
Chair, Soho Safer Neighbourhood Ward Panel, Berwick Street, W1
