Fancy helping the Olivier judges?

DO you know your Brecht from your Stanislavski, your Stoppard from your Pinter?
Can you always spot the overzealous thesp chewing the scenery? Did last year’s battle of the Shakespeare’s get your pulse racing? If the answer to all these questions is yes then London’s theatre fraternity needs you.
Fans of the footlights are being invited to join the ranks of some of the most revered men in Theatreland and sit on the judging panels of the Laurence Olivier Awards.
Ten members of the public are being sought to join professional judges for what are considered the Oscars of Theatreland.
The Society of London Theatre (SOLT), which runs the awards, has always defended its policy of having non-experts on the panel since they began in 1976, despite charges of bowing to populism.
Competition is expected to be stiff, for not only will the
successful applicants have the kudos of judging the Oliviers, but they will also be showered with thousands of pounds worth of theatre tickets for an entire year.
Peter Wilkins, chair of the Olivier Awards Committee of SOLT, said: “It’s a commitment but it’s also a massive honour. If you win a place on the panel you will have to sit through about 80 or 90 shows, which is a lot of theatre.”
Forms are available in most West End theatres or at www.olivierawards.co.uk
