Health history focus
BLACK History Month kicked off with an event to raise awareness of the health conditions that blight ethnic minority communities.
But it wasn’t all stark warnings and prescriptions, with activities from Capoeira to head massages to stave off illness.
Specialist staff were on hand to give advice on some diseases, including sickle cell, lupus and diabetes.
Deputy Lord Mayor, Cyril Nemeth, said: “As a practising GP I think it is extremely important to increase awareness of health issues and the start of Black History Month is an especially appropriate time to highlight illnesses that are particuarly associated with the black and ethnic minority communities.
“Black History Month is also a time to celebrate the rich diversity of Westminster’s residents and visitors.”
