The cyclists who couldn’t care less about pedestrians

• I HEARTILY endorse the comments made by Antony Porter regarding the problems caused by the increasing predominance of bicycles both on the pavement and off it (Is it time to give cyclists number plates? July 18).
There is out there quite a large minority of cyclists who are a constant problem to us all in that these individuals have no regard for pedestrians other than to treat them with contempt.
Those responsible, be it youngsters or adults, have no qualms about riding recklessly on and off pavements, also three abreast on busy streets potentially creating dangerous situations for themselves and other road users.
In my opinion bikes should be banned to children under 16 years of age.
In our area we have a problem of joy-riding by kids at all hours.
A proper registration could be brought in, with appropriate payments made.
Why should the motorist always be made to carry the costs?
The police and others seem to be hard pressed to deal with this bike menace .
