West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published:13 June 2008

Pavement beer gardens

THE main problem for residents of Soho is that pubs are being allowed to use the pavements and roads as their beer gardens.
I manage a flat in Bateman Street and the tenants are constantly moving out because of the noise from pubs.
The pavements are totally obstructed by drinkers most evenings and the noise that they cause to surrounding flats is unbelievable.
Pedestrians are forced to walk in the road and someone is going to get run over soon.
I have complained many times to the council but nothing constructive is done.
It is as though they are working on behalf of the breweries.
This is a very recent problem and most of the people standing outside the pubs are not smokers.
Soho is becoming uninhabitable.
I wish I could extend my office space out into the road and triple the size of my premises for free.
The pub owners must be laughing all the way to the bank!
Simon Beasley, W1
