West End | News | Westminster| Florence Nightingale | Nurses UCLH | Victorian | Nurses' Day '08

NURSES at University College London Hospital took a break from their hectic schedule to celebrate Florence Nightingale’s birthday.
The hospital looked like the set from a period drama – with nurses slipping into starched Victorian uniform to show patients how they are carrying on the great lady’s legacy 188 years after her birth. Nurses were joined in spirit by their contemporaries across the world – from Singapore to San Francisco, to mark Nurses’ Day 08.
Louise Boden, UCLH chief nurse said: “It is particularly important in this, the 60th anniversary of the NHS, to remember and celebrate the devotion and service of nurses and midwives since 1948. It was enormously encouraging to see the enjoyment our day provided for both staff, patients and the public.”
