West End Extra - by JAMIE WELHAM

West End | News | Westminster| Trafalgar Square | Bank Holiday Monday | Africa Day | Mayor of London Boris Johnson

TRAFALGAR Square is gearing up to host a day of foot-stomping music to mark Africa Day this bank holiday Monday.
Among the performers on the bill are Les Amazones de Guinee – a group of female soldiers famed for their big-band sound – Zaire drummer Kanda Bongo Man, and the current darling of world music, Bassekou Kouyate.
If the hip-shaking gets too much there will be an arts and crafts market and a feast of delicacies from across the continent to satisfy even the most fussy of palates.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “The Africa Day celebrations in Trafalgar Square are an excellent opportunity to get a taste of Africa and its many cultures. Let’s make this event one to remember.”
The first acts begin at 10am with festivities scheduled to continue into the evening.
