Right royal party causes a stir with noise watchdogs
WHEN Prince Andrew, Naomi Campbell and Tracey Emin are on the guest list, it’s never going to be a quiet affair.
But the decibel count at swanky Mayfair restaurant Annex 3, was so high on Saturday night that the council had to send out its noise team to tell guests to pipe down.
The private party for around 50 guests was being thrown by the Swedish sports tycoon Johan Eliasch – boss of the Head sports equipment company – to mark the 16th birthday of his son.
Westminster City Council said there had been previous complaints about noise. As the champagne flowed and the band got into full swing, some of the younger members of the party became so rowdy they had to be carried out of the restaurant in Little Portland Street.
They told the restaurant to turn down the music or risk being stripped of its licence.
Council environmental health manager Andrew Ralph said: “We understand the venue had been hired to a private party and a free bar provided on the evening. When our officers visited shortly after midnight, which was closing time, it was clear that a number of people were worse for wear and the level of disturbance outside the premises was unacceptable. The venue is close to a residential area of the West End.”
The restaurant was unavailable for comment. |
