Campaigning Livingstone on Soho walkabout

LONDON mayor Ken Livingstone went on walkabout on Wednesday in Soho to meet members of the gay community.
Supporters followed the London mayor from Old Compton’s of Soho pub to Soho Square and back to Cambridge Circus.
He visited spots including Profile, the gay bar in Frith Street, where he sipped a cocktail with customers.
He said: “I am proud that as mayor, and throughout my political career, I have been at the forefront of promoting rights for lesbians, gay men bisexuals and transgender people.
“If re-elected in May, I will work to ensure that London retains its reputation as a welcoming and safe place.”
He said he had supported tolerance in the West End since being elected in 2000.
A spokesman for the LGBT Labour Party said: “He created the civil list for same-sex couples that led to civil partnerships, backs LGBT London Pride and has stood against the extremist, racist and homophobic BNP his whole political career.”
