MP presents post office closure petitions

KAREN Buck MP presented two petitions to the House of Commons on Tuesday night over plans to close post offices in north Westminster.
Objections to the closure of the Formosa Street post office in Maida Vale drew 2,260 signatures calling for Post Office Ltd to drop their closure plan.
Almost 700 signed a similar petition urging the government to reject proposals to close Harrow Road post office.
The petitions stated the post offices provided vital services to those most in need, and that their closure would harm small businesses.
Users will be forced to travel more than a mile if the closures go ahead.
The move comes in the week the consultation period formally ends. Westminster Council is waiting to hear from the Post Office, whether they will agree to defer the decision on closing the Harrow Road branch until the extended consultation over Formosa Street is finished.
The consultation period for the Formosa Street branch will end on May 30.
