More help for parents on benefits

CAMPAIGNERS want more help to be given to struggling single parents when changes to the benefits system come into effect in October.
During a Commons debate, Karen Buck MP demanded information and Labour councillors are calling on Westminster Council to make sure proper support structures are in place to combat child poverty.
Hundreds of parents in Westminster are affected by government plans to make lone parents – with children over 12 years old – find work by replacing their income support with jobseekers’ allowance.
• Westminster Kingsway College will hold an open day today (Friday) at Micky Star Children’s Centre in Paddington to explain changes to parents. It runs from 10.30am to 1pm.
For more information ring 020 7697 3816.
