Screen takeover

THE Screen cinema in Baker Street has been taken over by new owners.
It has been bought by the Everyman Media Group, which owns a similar art house cinema in Hampstead.

Group chief executive, Daniel Broch announced a long-term plan to buy out the Screen cinemas – six theatres including the Screen on the Hill, Belsize Park and the Screen on the Green in Islington – had been completed.
The deal is rumoured at £7 million, and is the first step in a massive expansion plan, according to Mr Broch. He said: “We have bought some good locations and a company staffed by people who know film. Also, what the Screen was doing 30 or so years ago has parallels to what we are doing now. As companies, we fit together well.”
Screen group first opened its doors in Upper Street, Islington, in 1970.
