Suspect in Yemen denies involvement in Martine death
ALMOST two weeks after the body of a Norwegian student was discovered buried under rubble in a Marylebone appartment block, police are still no nearer to apprehending her killer.
Efforts by police to question Farouk Abdulhak, 21, who is at large in the Yemen, have been scuppered by the lack of an extradition treaty.
His lawyers have denied that he had any involvement in the suspected strangling of the 23-year-old socialite Martine Vik Magnussen. They told one newspaper that detectives will have to travel to Yemen if they want to question the son of an Arab billionaire.
Mr Abdulhak flew out of Britain the day before her body was found and is believed to be living in his father’s mansion in capital city of Sana’a.
According to her friends, Ms Vik Magnussen was last seen leaving members-only Maddox nightclub in the early hours of Friday March 14.
Last week detectives made an appeal to help them trace designer clothes that the student was believed to have been wearing when she was last seen – including a Guess watch, Marc Jacobs bag and snakeskin shoes.
None of these items was found on her when police discovered her body in the Great Portland Street flat rented by fellow student Mr Abdulhak.
An inquest into her death was opened on Wednesday. A post-mortem revealed “significant injuries to her neck”.
