West End Extra - by JAMIE WELHAM

Man died after being hit by friend

AFTER a three-day Old Bailey trial a jury took less than two hours to clear a man accused of his pal’s manslaughter.
Their fun night out ended in horror when the victim fell backwards after being punched.
He suffered a fractured skull and slow bleeding to the brain.
The victim, student Muktar Ali, 20, was hit by Mayemba Makumbu, 22, in Princes Square, Bayswater, in August last year. After a relapse at home in Borough Road, Lambeth, he died five days after being injured.
Mr Ali and friends were in the west London area for the Notting Hill Carnival. Mr Makumbu, of St John’s Wood, claimed that Mr Ali became aggressive.
“I didn’t expect he would end up in hospital. I was defending myself,” he said.
