The harm of arms

STUDENTS took part in a day of action this week to put pressure on universities to sever links with the arms trade.
At University College London, students dressed up as arms dealers and sold fake weapons to bring attention to the ongoing collaboration between some universities and the arms industry.
While some universities have responded to pressure by withdrawing their investment, UCL has yet to commit to such an agreement.
The events were organised by students with the support of Campaign Against Arms Trade and People & Planet, the UK’s largest student campaigning network.
UCL student Sara Hall said: “Universities such as Bangor and London’s School of Oriental and African Studies have ditched their arms shares without any damage to their finances.
“Other universities now have an opportunity to improve their reputation by announcing that they will end their links with the arms trade.”
