West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 8 February 2008

Small group?

• WESTMINSTER dismiss anyone who opposes their plans as ‘very small unrepresentative groups’.
The fact remains there was no proper consultation about the change to the Pimlico lunch break. Students, staff and parents were asked to comment on two proposals which were to form the basis of consultation for changes to be implemented in January 2008. This was during July 2007. By September the lunch break had been diminished to a glorified tea break.
Whatever headteacher Jo Shuter’s reasons, she has a duty to consult and listen to staff over a reasonable period of time. Had she done this during the autumn term, I am sure that agreement would have been reached. Lets face it, the works have only just started so she did not need to go to war with her teachers in September over this.
Westminster are running the school like an academy now and things can only get worse. Jo Shuter, schools director Steve Farnsworth, Councillor Sarah Richardson and John Nash take note – you cannot open a school without the teachers. Talk to them – secure agreement and retain those fantastic teachers which make Pimlico the great school that it is.
