Sarah at launch of new centre

THE first lady of politics made a rare step into the public spotlight when she visited a primary school in Marylebone.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s wife Sarah was at Edward Wilson school in Senior Street yesterday (Thursday) to launch a government initiative.
She is pictured, far left, with Karen Buck, Labour MP for Kensington North and Regent’s Park and pupils and carers.
The government has launched a scheme where purpose-built children’s centres will flank primary schools across the country.
The Edward Wilson children’s centre, the 12th centre in Westminster, is the first to be directly attached to a school.
Headteacher Debra Okitikpi said: “She’s obviously got interests (in schools) like any mum. She came to see the facilities for the under-fives and see how the services are joining up and the courses you can get. She looked very glamorous and rested after her trip from India.”
Ms Buck said: “Edward Wilson school has been undergoing a transformation in the last few years, with new classrooms, facilities for parents and now the children’s centre, so it was great to be able to show Sarah Brown all the good work being done.”
