Jevon’s mother calls for tougher stance on knife crime
THE mother of a teenager killed on the Lisson Green estate has called for tougher sentences on the anniversary of his death.
Anne Jude’s son Jevon Henry was fatally stabbed in Paveley Street one year ago yesterday (Thursday). She said: “The law needs to be changed – I have heard so many teenagers say since Jevon’s death that the law on knife crime is not strong enough.”
The 18-year-old was stabbed yards from his home.
A special memorial concert is planned today at Jevon’s club the Four Feathers Youth Club in Rossmore Road.
Ms Jude said: “There will be a collection at the concert to raise funds for a memorial garden to be built on the roof of the youth club.”
A commemorative plaque will be placed outside the club.
Jevon was a former pupil at St George’s secondary school in Maida Vale.
Born in St Lucia, he had come to this country six years ago. A fan of motorcycles, he was studying to become a mechanic at the College of North West London in Willesden.
Four men – all in their 20s – appeared on Wednesday last week at Westminster Magistrates Court charged with murder. Police said a fifth, aged 21, is due to appear on a similar charge next Thursday. |
