West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 25 January 2008

Breaking school rules on academy

• THERE is empty rhetoric from Pimlico’s proposed academy sponsor John Nash and his charity Future, which does nothing to engage the school community as was promised.
There have been secretive meetings regarding the “vetting” of shortlisted academy sponsors at the Department for Schools and Families. Cap this with Westminster Council making the rules up to suit its own agenda and you realise why parents are so angry about the manner in which Pimlico School has been railroaded into the academy proposal.
Westminster declared last year that the only way of securing the admission policy they wanted for Pimlico School was to change its status to an academy. However, it has come to light that Westminster will be giving Quinton Kynaston School a £2 million endowment, subject to them agreeing on admissions criteria, without becoming an academy. I wonder which pot of taxpayers’ money this will be coming from?
