Four arrested over gun offences
POLICE made four arrests in the West End in connection with firearms offences this week.
The most significant came on Friday when Steven Robertson, of no fixed abode, was arrested outside the CitiBank in Oxford Street.
The 35-year-old was charged on Monday with 10 counts of armed robbery in the West End and one count of attempted armed robbery. He has also been charged with 12 counts of possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.
Paul Farnhill (44) appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with possessing a firearm with intent to intimidate and commit offences.
Armed police also arrested two men wielding fake guns in Trafalgar Square.
The officers stopped and searched a group of four youths on the Charing Cross Road at the junction with Cranbourne Street.
The men, aged 21 and 20, were taken to a west London police station and have been bailed.
Detective Chief Superintendent Christine Jones, from the Met’s Diplomatic Protection Group, said: “Imitation guns are used to commit offences, including armed robberies and intimidation.
“Carrying a firearm, imitation or real, is a very serious offence and will not be tolerated.” |
